week9: what more would you like to learn?

First, when I knew that I had to do 2 projects, power point presentation and web pages, I thought I won't be able to do that! However, though they were SO HARD for me, they were also fun. I didn't have much time to create NICE web pages, but it was enough to catch my interests. So, I want to learn more how to make more interesting web pages.
Next, I'd like to know more about virus. Now I don't have my computer, but I plan to buy one. I got used to use Windows, so I plan to buy Windows, but I learned Windows is easy to catch virus. So I want to learn how to avoid virus.

week7 : Computer Gifts for family or friends

Since I belonged to this class: Introduction to Computers, I noticed and realized how the flash memory is useful. Before that, I didn't know even the existence of the super tiny useful thing. I used to use floppy disk to store information. However, the capacity is not so big, so I had to keep many floppies to store information. But now, I have a memory flash, so I don't have to have many floppies! Wonderful! Moreover, its very tiny and light, so it's easy to carry. So, for me, one of poor LCJ student who have to carry heavy books everyday, it's great thing. However, there's a weak point to store information in flash memory. It's tiny, so it's easy to loose it. Actually, the first month of this semester, I lost my first flash memory. I was sure I kept it inside of my pen case, but it wasn't in it. I searched it through my room, but I couldn't find it, so I bought new one. So, if I buy flash memory for my sister or other family as a gift, I'll but another one so that they won't lose every information. that's horrible! I stored every drafts of essays, presentation, etc... so I can't explain my feeling I felt when I realized I lost it completely! Again, I'll buy two pairs of USB flash, and I'll tell them to pay attention not to lose them!

Net Neutrality, also called Network Neutrality or NN, is the principle that Internet users should be in control of what content they view and what applications they use on the Internet. The Internet has operated according to this neutrality principle since its earliest days indeed it is this neutrality that has allowed many companies., including Google, to launch , grow, and innovate. Fundamentally, net neutrality is about equal access to the Internet. In our view, the broadband carries should not be permitted to use their market power to discriminate against competing applications or content. Just as telephone companies are not permitted to tell consumers who they can call or what they can say, broadband carriers should not be allowed to use their market power to control activity on line. Today, the neutrality of the Internet is at stake as the broadband carries want Congress's permission to determine what content gets you first and fastest. Put simply, this would fundamentally alter the openness of the Internet.

These days, the Windows Vista, the latest model of Microsoft Windows, has appeared at least. It was shown after Windows XP. This time, there are six versions of Windows Vista. They are like this below.....

*Windows Vista Home Basic Edition
This is the improved version of Windows XP Home Edition. New security system and search engine are added, but excellent interface and functions of high-end media are not added.

*Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
This is high-end product for regular users. This version supports new interface of Vista, and Media Center and Tablet PC are added.

*Windows Vista Business Edition
This is improved version of Windows XP Professional. This is main product for companies, and many professional functions like UNIX service are added.

*Windows Vista Enterprise Edition
This is provided only for the companies that have bought volume license. This type include all functions that are added to Business Edition, and other many functions like UNIX service are added.

*Windows Vista Ultimate Edition
This is the greatest version that involve Enterprise Edition and Home Premium Edition. This can download an application which is called Ultimate Extras that can be used only by Ultimate Edition.

These five types are available in Japan, and another one type: Windows Vista Starter Edition is not available in Japan, but also appeared this time.
A lot of people were waiting for this new Windows Vista, but now, there are many problems about this new machine have announced by many users all over the world. So, the company has to solve these problems immediately.

As you know, this site is very famous searching site and I'm sure we students use it a lot.
We can search anything that needed for homework or assignments , for example, the article of news or information. Or, We can also look hot entertainment news or interviews for famous persons like actress and singers. Also, we can use it as a community, which we can search friends who like same thing or people who can solve problems.

About 1 year ago, I moved to Tokyo to enter this collage, and start living by myself. Then I started cooking, and I found great joy for cooking. Now, I live with my boyfriend, and cooking became more interesting because I can feel that I want to improve my cooking skill more and more. So, I use this web site a lot. This web site is really useful. it's divided for 2 parts: "Ethnic cuisines by region" and "Recipes by type of dish". The "Ethnic cuisines by region" part include African &Middle East, Asia& Pacific Ocean, Europe, and so on. So, I can search the very meals which I exactly want to know. The "Recipes by type of dish" is also useful in another way. If I want to cook another light meal, I can directly go into the "Salad &Stuff" or "Soup" parts, and soon I can find fine choices. I recommend this sites for all people who has interested in cooking.

When I want to buy something which is not in market near to my house, or When I feel tired to go and search something to buy, I use this sites. I can search any kind of stuff like CDs, DVDs, books, and ipods , and order them by just 1 click. I don't have to walk around in a big department store to search something I need to buy. I don't have to ask a staff if there is the book which I've searched in a book store. It save your time and emotions. Also, just looking the fine materials is enough interesting!

week3 : What's the "social engineering?"

The deffinition of "social engineering" is that an outside hacker’s use of mental tricks on legitimate users of a computer system, in order to obtain information he needs to gain access to the system or that getting needed information (for example, a password) from a person rather than breaking into a system. Social engineering can be any and all of these things, depending upon where we sit.
In other words, engineering is generally a hacker’s clever manipulation of the natural human tendency to trust. The hacker’s goal is to get information that will allow him/her to gain unauthorized access to a system which has value and the information that resides on that system.
Before I red the word on the assignment's page, I had never heard the word "social engineering". So, I researched the word, and was really surprised. I had an image that hacker is very clever person, but I thought so again though I know they're doing not good things. They are not only good at using machines and information, but also good at handling or controlling people's mind! But I think it is smart way to try to get through minds ; not through systems if hacker want to do it. it's because the technique will get higher and higher, and stronger and stronger. So it will be difficult more and more to get through systems. However, the mind won't change or get stronger so much because human keep having week points in mind which not depend on the progress of technology.
I don't think I can, but I'd like to know how to do it someday because I might understand human's mind more if I could understand the method!

week2 : What do you know about Mac?

The thing I remember when I hear the word "Mac" is the mark of an apple.
I feel embarrassed, but I don't know any other information's about Mac. I have just some images for Mac computers.
In my favorite detective novels, a very beautiful and rich girl appears. She's heroine, and have special ability in the field of Mathematics. So, she goes to high level university, and her major is engineering. Then, she uses the Mac computers a lot in her university. she seems to use them for drawing some graphs , shapes, and simulation. So, I have the image that Mac is widely used in scientific or mathematical fields. In fact, I've heard that Mac is very good for calculation.
In addition, I heard the Mac is strong for virse. Windows can easily effected by any virus, but Mac seems not to be injured by them so much.
As you know, I have only very little information about Mac, so I want to learn about it more. And, I heard Mac's appearance is very cute, so I want to see it and try it if I could.

1st week's assignment

week1: What do you want to learn about computers?

It was when I was junior high school student that I started to use computers. In my house, my father had a computer, Windows98, and he let me use it as much as I like. I didn't want to read thick and boring textbook of the computer, so I just tried to make it work without any knowledge. I was completely not good at using any kinds of machines, but I could pop up Word soft, and could type something! It was really interesting, and my interests for the unknown machine got bigger and bigger.
After short term, I could type whatever I want smoothly, but I couldn't use other tools of software. Now, I can use Word soft and Internet Explorer, but I have no idea about other things. So, I want to learn how to use other interesting ant useful software. For example, when I was in my hometown, my father used to make nengajyo, a kind of Japanese message card which are exchanged on January 1st, by computer. Before he does it with computer, we had to buy many nengajyo and had to write each one. However, we don't have to do the heavy task because he prints each year's animal , and draws nice letters on it with computers. It looked very interesting to make it, but I couldn't learn how to do it.
I'm sure that there will be more, a lot of interesting software or tools. I'd like to learn some of them, and use it in my daily life.
